A continued dialogue with Aalto University Campus

Our work ranges from conserving Aalto’s most iconic buildings to transforming and developing new spaces that meet the changing needs of a vibrant, growing campus.
The former main building of the Helsinki University of Technology was renovated into the Aalto University Undergraduate Centre in 2015. The renewal of this landmark by Alvar and Elissa Aalto balanced heritage preservation with the building’s continued role in the evolving campus. Across the central green, the protected Aalto-designed library was transformed into a modern learning centre.

As the campus has opened to a wider community, the protected Kivimies buildings—former laboratories and administrative spaces—were transformed into a daycare and comprehensive school. The old wood science laboratory became a campus upper secondary school where high school and university life meet. For Aalto University’s start-up incubator, A Grid, we developed a flexible spatial concept implemented in stages.
Our long-standing collaboration with Aalto University Properties has been both meaningful and efficient. The deep understanding built through numerous projects enables us to quickly arrive at the optimal solution.
